PURPOSE: To constitute an inexpensive adapter having high-precision guide grooves by arranging plural pairs of columnar rods brought closely into contact with each other on a substrate so that they form prescribed angles and using grooves between rods as guide grooves of optical fibers to form main and branch paths.
CONSTITUTION: Pairs of columnar rods 10 and 11, 12 and 13, and 14 and 15 are brought closely into contact with each other and are arranged in parallel with each other, and V-shaped spaces formed between rods are used as guide grooves of optical fibers. Each pair of rods are ground obliquely at an inclina tion angle θ and are arranged on the substrate, and the main path is formed with optical fibers 1 and 2 put on V grooves, and the branch path 3 is formed with an optical fiber 3. Rods 10W15 are worked with a high precision to have the same outside diameter, and the shape, the size, and the arranging positions of guide grooves are set with a high precision, and optical axes of optical fibers are aligned accurately, thus constituting an optical multiplexer/ demultiplexer of small loss.
