PURPOSE: To equalize the frequency characteristic flatly to improve the picture quality improving effect, by providing the auxiliary variable equalizer, which has a characteristic opposite to the energy spectrum of the 2T pulse, in the adaptive automatic equalizer using the 2T pulse.
CONSTITUTION: Automatic variable equalizer 2 of a spectrum which has a characteristic opposite to the spectrum of the 2T pulse is provided in the input side or output side of automatic equalizer 1, which performs automatic equalization of the waveform of the television signal by the 2T pulse placed in the position of 17H in the television vertical flyback time, to control the variable characteristic with color bar components of 4.2MHz or 3.58MHz of the equalization output of automatic equalizer 1 as the error signal. Otherwise, color bar components of 0.5MHz are taken out from the equalization output, and the level difference between these components and the said color bar components may be used as the error signal.
