PURPOSE: To execute inference accompanied with competition dissolution adapted to a user's utilizing environment by using the information of a statistical information to determine the degree of priority when the competition of a production rule is generated.
CONSTITUTION: A knowledge base 1 being a long term storage area in which a production rule is stored, expresses accumulates a knowledge in a production rule form in order to execute inference. A production rule 9 and its statistical information register 10 form a pair and are stored in the knowledge base 1. An inference processing mechanism 2 executes matching of the symbol train pattern of an IF part of the production rule in the knowledge base 1 and the symbol pattern of a symbol train element in the inference use short period storage area 3, and executes inference processing. An input/output terminal device 4 is used when a user inputs an initial data to the inference processing mechanism, or executes an inquiry and a response on the way of the inference.
