Abstract:
PURPOSE: To prevent the corrosion of the metal of a cooling system and to suppress the deterioration of glycol due to oxidation by using alkoxybenzoic acid as an additive for an antifreezing fluid or a cooling liq. having stability to acid water.
CONSTITUTION: This additive is alkoxybenzoic acid represented by the formula or at least one among its amine salt, alkali metallic salt and ammonium salt and it is contained in an antifreezing fluid or a cooling liq. preferably by 0.05-8.0wt.%. This additive has corrosion preventing function to a metal contg. iron or Al but corrosion preventing effect to a Cu-based material such as brass or copper cannot be expected. In the case of the Cu-based material, it is desirable that this additive be used in combination with triazole such as tolyltriazole, benzotriazole or 4-phenyl-1,2,3-triazole. The pref. amt. of the triazole added is 0.05-1.0wt.%.
