To provide a non-chlorine-based olefin sulfide having adequate viscosity and solubility to a base oil, having a high sulfur content and having good load resistant performance and stability to oxidation and excellent in low corrosiveness to non-iron metal and to provide a method for producing the olefin sulfide when using as an extreme-pressure additive.
The method for producing an olefin sulfide (A) comprises reacting at least two kinds of dienes (a1) with sulfur (a2), hydrogen sulfide (a3) and amines (a4). The olefin sulfide (A) is prepared by reacting a mixture (a1) of two or more kinds of dienes with sulfur (a2) and hydrogen sulfide (a3), and has 1-3 sulfur atoms per average mono and polysulfide bond contained in the molecule and 40-55 wt.% sulfur content in the molecule and does not contain chlorine.
