PURPOSE: An non-gelling additive for a pulverized coal/oil mixture, which has an excellent stabilizing effect, comprising an alkaline substance and a compound having at least four ethylene oxide groups.
CONSTITUTION: The non-gelling additive for pulverized coal/oil mixture containing 20W70wt% pulverized coal, ≤100μ particle diameter and 0W20wt% water is prepared by combining (A) an organic compound having, in a molecule, at least four ethylene oxide groups, obtained by reacting, in at least 1:4mol ratio of an active hydrogen-containing substance such as an alcohol, a carboxylic acid or an alkanolamine to ethylene oxide or ethylene chlorohydrin with (B) an alkaline substance such as an inorganic hydroxide or an amine. By the addition of said additive in a concentration of below 1wt%, the pulverized coal/oil mixture can be kept stable at ordinary temperature for about three months or more.
