PURPOSE: To decrease the initial polymn. time, residual monomer content, and coarse particle content of a vinyl acetate resin emulsion-based adhesive compsn. prepd. using an α-olefin-maleic anhydride copolymer as a protective colloid without detriment to the water resistance inherent in such an adhesive compsn.

CONSTITUTION: This adhesive compsn. mainly comprises a vinyl acetate resin emulsion which is obtd. by polymerizing vinyl acetate alone or together with a monomer copolymerizable therewith in emulsion using an org. peroxide and sodium erysorbate as polymn. initiators in the presence of a protective colloid which is an α-olefin-unsatd. carboxylic acid copolymer or its deriv. made water- sol. with a basic substance.
