Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain an adhesive for wood consisting essentially of a copolymer emulsion having specific physical properties and composed of vinyl pivalate and ethylenically unsaturated monomer and having extremely high water resistance.
CONSTITUTION: The objective adhesive consisting essentially of a copolymer emulsion obtained by subjecting (A) vinyl pivalate to emulsion copolymerization with (B) ethylenically unsaturated monomers such as ethylene, vinyl acetate and acrylic acid ester. Furthermore, examples of the copolymer composition include a composition consisting of 5-90wt.% vinyl pivalate unit, 5-80wt.% vinyl acetate unit, 5-50wt.% ethylene unit, 5-90wt.% vinyl acetate, 5-90wt.% vinyl pivalate unit and 5-50wt.% acrylic acid.
