PURPOSE: To obtain an adhesive, consisting of a modified copolymer obtained by imidating a copolymer constituted of maleic acid based compound units and specific compound units in respective specific proportions and neutralizing the imidated copolymer and having improved adhesive force particularly for paper, wood, cloth, resin, etc.

CONSTITUTION: An adhesive obtained by imidating and neutralizing a copolymer consisting of (A) 5W50mol% maleic acid based compound units with (B) 50W95mol% compound units having a radically active double bond at the molecular end, preferably styrene based compound and/or acrylic acid based compound units (C) preferably 5W90mol% isobutylene units and blending the resultant modified copolymer with preferably an inorganic filler, epoxy compound and latex.
