PURPOSE: To improve the measuring accuracy of several dimensions of the gap characteristic of a gap depth, etc., by obtaining the difference of magnetic flux between the time when impressing bias magnetic field to a magnetic head and the time when impressing no field.
CONSTITUTION: The core 7a of a slider 1 is inserted into a measuring coil 2 and the inductance of the coil 2 is measured by an impedance analyzer 10 in the state of impressing no bias magnetic field and a measured value Lt by small current is obtained. Then, the inductance is measured in the state of impressing the bias magnetic field and the measured value L1 is obtained. When the difference Lt-L1 of these values is regarded as Lg, the Lg is the inductance generated by the magnetic flux g passing through the gap 9 and a relation between the gap depth d and the Lg is shown in a figure. The gap depth 9 is obtained from the value of the Lg. Then, an approximate expression calculating the inductance Lgo generated by the magnetic field passing through the gap 9 of the coil 2 when the coil 2 is in a specified position is set, and the characteristic of the magnetic head is obtained from the value Lgo.
