Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adjustable chromophore compound and a material (e.g., ophthalmic lens material) incorporating those compounds.SOLUTION: The adjustable chromophore compound includes a chemical moiety that structurally changes upon exposure to a predetermined electromagnetic radiation (e.g. two-photon radiation) as well as a lens material (particularly an intraocular lens material having the compound). The present invention is also directed to an adjustable chromophore system comprising a compound of formula B-X, wherein i) B is a base chromophore compound; ii) X is an adjustable chemical moiety that forms remaining chemical moiety (C) upon exposure to a predetermined electromagnetic radiation, and thereby forming a compound B-C; iii) the compound B-C provides higher light absorption than the compound B-X; and iv) the remaining chemical moiety (C) includes a conjugated double bond.SELECTED DRAWING: None
