Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light and inexpensive adjustment mechanism for adjustable furniture having sufficient strength, weight carrying capacity and durability.SOLUTION: Body support portions 12, 14, 16 are mounted with respect to a base to allow angular adjustment of their relative positions to alter the configuration of a bed 10. Load-bearing members 36, 40 provided for angularly moving the body-support portions 12, 14, 16 to effect angular adjustment of the bed project from at least one of the moveable body-support portions 12, 14, 16. The load-bearing members 36, 40 are supported by bearing means 38, 42 arranged to run on curved supports 26, 28, and each of the body-support portions is mounted pivotally with respect to the base about a corresponding pivot axis defined by the center of curvature of the corresponding curved support.
