Title:
ADJUSTMENT METHOD AND ADJUSTMENT DEVICE OF DISCHARGE GAP LENGTH
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3847153
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To previously adjust the discharge gap length of a discharge lamp to eliminate its dispersion, thereby to facilitate the design of an image display device or the like using the discharge lamp and to improve quality and performance thereof.
SOLUTION: In an A.C. type discharge lamp 10 with a pair of electrodes 13a and 13b oppositely disposed, both the electrodes 13a and 13b are discharged and worn by previously applying, between both the electrodes 13a and 13b, a voltage with its duty cycle varied with respect to an application voltage in normal lighting, so that the discharge gap length is adjusted to a predetermined length. In D.C. type discharge lamps 20 and 30, both the electrodes are discharged and worn by applying a voltage having a polarity reverse to that in normal lighting for a predetermined period, so that the discharge gap length is adjusted to a predetermined length.
