Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce slump loss and to improve the hardening characteristics, water-reducing property, etc., of a hydraulic material by copolymerizing a monomer having a polymerizable C-C double bond with an acrylic acid monomer.
SOLUTION: This admixture is made of a copolymer having a mol.wt. of 500-500,000 obtd. by bringing 0.5-30 wt.% monomer of formula I [where R1 is H or methyl, R2 is ethylene or carbonyl, R3 is hydrocarbon, R4 is hydrocarbon or acyl, X is H, hydrocarbon or a hydrophilic group and (n) is 0 or ≥1] and 1-80 wt.% monomer or formula II (where R5 is H or methyl and M1 is H, a metallic atom or ammonium) into reaction at room temp. to 150°C under atmospheric pressure to 5 kg/cm2 pressure for 1-10 hr. At this time, 1-80 wt.% monomer of formula III [where R6 is H or methyl, R7 is hydrocarbon, R8 is H or hydrocarbon and (m) is 0 or ≥1] and 5-30 wt.% monomer of formula IV [where each of R9 and R10 is H or methyl and each of M2 and M3 is H, a metallic atom, ammonium or a group of the formula -(R11-O)p-R12 (where R11 is hydrocarbon, R12 is H or hydrocarbon and (p) is 0 or ≥1)] are allowed to take part in the reaction.
