PURPOSE: To well adsorb materials which are considerd good active carbon adsorptive, too, other than protein adsorptive materials by specifying the composition, average pore sizes, and surface areas of wet and dry bodies of a styrene-divinyl benzene type granular porous crosslinked copolymer.
CONSTITUTION: The wt% (x) of the divinyl benzene unit of a styrene-divinyl benzene copolymer based on the weight of the entire monomer is set at 25W98. Average pore sizes Φv and the surface area (a) per unit wet volume are equations I, II. The values (b), (c) of the surface area per unit dry weight and the amount of water pores divided respectively by (x) are set at 1.5≤c≤6.0 at 12.5≤b≤16.0 or 1/5≤c≤0.46b-0.235 at 7.2≤b≤12.5. Here, if (x) is below 25, adsorbing capacity decreases and if Φv, (a) are out of the range of the equations I, II, the rate of adsorption decreases. At b>16.0, resin synthesis is infeasible in general, and at b<7.2, c<1.5, the rate of adsorption is low. At c>6.0, resin intensity decreases as well.
