To provide an adsorbent capable of adsorption-collecting efficiently volatile iodine, radioactive anions in effluent, or the like, and having excellent crack resistance of a solidified body after solidification treatment, and a method of immobilizing a radioactive element-containing waste capable of providing an encapsulation property of the radioactive element-containing waste and long term stability.
This adsorbent for the radioactive element-containing waste comprises spherical lamellar double hydroxide of a nonstoichiometric compound expressed by general formulas (a): [M2+1-x M3+x(OH)2]x+[An-x/n-mH2O]x-, (b): [Al2Li(OH)6]x+[An-x/n-mH2O]x-, where 0.1≤x≤0.4, and 0<m; n is a natural number of 1-4; M2+ represents at least one kind of divalent metals; M3+ represents at least one kind of trivalent metals; and An- represents at least one kind of n-valent of ion-exchangeable anions.
