Title:
ADSORBENT FOR URANIUM IN SEA WATER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5775140
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve the strength and adsoptive power of an uranium adsorpbent by depositing a titanic acid on a carrier made by adding a small amt. of an inorg. binder to a porous carbon material and granulating the same in such a way as to have specific surface areas, total pore volume etc.

CONSTITUTION: A porous carbon material such as brown coal having isotropic structure is ground, and an inorg. porous binder such as silica sol is added to this at 0.3W2.5wt% after which the mixture is granulated and molded. Thence, the molding is carbonized and cooled, whereby it is made into a carrier of ≤6.0% volatile matter, 100W500m2/g specific surface areas, 0.5W0.7cm3/g total pore volume of which 50W80% the pore volume consists of ≥100 pore sizes. A titanic acid is carried on this carrier, whereby the adsorbent for uranium in sea water is manufactured. The carrier of this adsorbent has high activity and high strength and permits inexpensive manufacture.
