Abstract:
A control surface for the wings of an aircraft to retain airflow over the surface at high to very high angles of attack comprises in addition to the customary pivoting of the control surface when in the form of a flap at the trailing edge of a wing, an additional pivot axis provided in the central to rear part of the flap to enable it to be moved to a position at which the forward edge of the flap is below the trailing edge of the wing. When the control surface is a rudder 103 in addition to it pivoting about a pivot axis 101 it also pivots about an axis 104.
