Abstract:
To provide novel formulations for delivering, to the lungs and/or systemic compartment, pirfenidone or a pyridone analog compound useful for treating, e.g., lung diseases represented by idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.SOLUTION: An aqueous solution for nebulized inhalation administration comprises: water; pirfenidone or a pyridone analog compound at a concentration of 0.1 to 60 mg/mL; and one or more cosolvents; where the osmolality of the aqueous solution is 50 to 6000 mOsmol/kg. Preferably, the cosolvents are ethanol, propylene glycol, or glycerol.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
