PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a secondary combustion chamber from being blocked by surely preventing dust in an exhaust gas from adhering to an inner wall surface in the secondary combustion chamber. SOLUTION: The afterburner 20 burns an exhaust gas containing dust having a specific constituent that is discharged from an ash-melting furnace 1 for melting incineration ash, and a flammable gas. The afterburner 20 comprises a secondary combustion chamber 24 for burning an exhaust gas for containing the dust having a specific constituent and the flammable gas, a heat-up burner 26 that is provided at the specific site of the secondary combustion chamber for heating the inner wall surface of the secondary combustion chamber, and a controtor 27 for heating the inner wall surface of the secondary combustion chamber to a specific temperature (approximately 800°C) or higher that is set so that the dust having a specific constituent can be melted by the heat-up burner at least when starting to operate the ash melting furnace.
