To obtain the subject composition exhibiting excellent moisture retention effect and hair protection effect by making the composition include an extract of fermented material of rice bran/soybean prepared by inoculating Bacillus natto or Bacillus subtilis to a medium containing a rice bran, a soybean and a carbon source and fermenting and culturing the bacterium.
Bacillus natto or Bacillus subtilis is inoculated into a medium containing a rice bran (e.g. rice embryo bud), a soybean (e.g. defatted soybean) and a carbon source (e.g. glucose), fermented and cultured to give an extract of fermented material of rice bran/soybean. The objective composition contains ≥0.005 pt.wt., preferably ≥0.015 pt.wt., more preferably 0.015-0.5 pt.wt., further preferably 0.025-0.05 pt.wt. of the extract based on 100 pts.wt. of the composition. The extract of the fermented material of rice bran/soybean may be a solution as it is obtained, by filtering the fermented and cultured solution prepared by the culture, a solution prepared by subjecting the filtrate to aftertreatment such as decoloring, etc., or a condensed solution obtained by concentrating the solution.
