PURPOSE: To obtain a yield-improving agent composed of a microbial cellulose produced by the spinner culture of a celluloseproducing microbial strain and effective for improving the yield of a filler to be added to pulp without lowering the paper strength.
CONSTITUTION: A microbial strain belonging to the genus Acetobacter, etc., and capable of producing cellulose is cultured by spinner culture while stirring the culture liquid and the obtained microbial cellulose is preferably defibrated with an ultrasonic disintegrator to obtain defibrated microbial cellulose. The defibrated product is added to a pulp incorporated with a filter such as precipitated or heavy calcium carbonate, talc or clay to improve the filler yield without lowering the paper strength.
