PURPOSE: To obtain an excellent agent for lowering cholesterol effective in a small amount without side effects and containing a specified phospholipid as the active component.
CONSTITUTION: A phospholipid containing γ-linoleic acid and/or another phospholipid containing bis-homo-γ-linoleic acid as the active component is properly blended with respectively conventional vehicle, binder, disintegrator, lubricant, stabilizer, buffering agent, etc., and the resultant mixture is subjected to pharmaceutical preparation by the conventional method to obtain the objective product. The amount of the phospholipids blended into the formulation is 2-50wt.%. The above-mentioned mixture can be formed into a tablet, granule, capsule, injection medicine, etc. The phospholipid containing bis-homo-γ-linoleic acid among the above-mentioned phospholipids is novel. The phospholipids are produced, by culturing a phospholipid-producing bacterium belonging to, e.g., Mucor or Conidiobolus genus.
