To obtain an agent for optical resolution having an excellent optical resolution performance especially in capillary electrophoresis usable in optical separation of optical isomers which are difficult in optical separation by using a water soluble sulfate polysaccharide as an active ingredient.
This agent uses sulfated polysaccharide or its salt derived from sea cucumber as active ingredient. Preferably, this active ingredient is composed of galacrosamine, glucuronic acid, fucose and sulfate group and the molecular weight is near 3000-100000 (according to a high-performance GPC). The especially preferred active ingredient has the following physical and chemical properties. The physical properties; white amorphous highly hygroscopic powder; molecular weight: near 5000-90000 (according to the high-performance GPC); component analysis: 15-20wt.% of galactosamine, 15-21wt.% of glucuronic acid, 14-20wt.% of fucose and 31-41wt.% of sulfate group, and in molar ratio; galactosamine: glucuronic acid: fucose: sulfate group=1:1.00±0.20:1±0.20:4±0.90; specific rotation at 20°C; [α]D from -60° to -75° (C=1%).
