PURPOSE: To provide a low toxic and highly safe hepatitis-preventing, treating agent containing a biphenyl derivative as an active ingredient.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of the formula (R1 is aminocarbonyl. aminothiocarbonyl, lower alkoxycarbonyl, etc.; one-two of R2-R1 are H, and the others are lower alkoxy, phenyl lover alkoxy, OH, or the adjacent groups are bonded to each other to form a lower alkoxydioxy) or its salt is added as an active ingredient. The administration amount of the compound of the formula is 0.1-500 mg/kg/day. The agent can be prepared into the shape of tablets, powder, capsules, granules, syrups, injections or drip injections. The compound of the formula is a new compound obtained by reacting a biphenyl biscarboxylic halide with a compound of formula: R8-H (R8 is amino, lower alkoxy). The agent is useful for chronic hepatitis, acute hepatitis, fatty liver. congestive liver, cirrhosis, etc.
