PURPOSE: To obtain an agent for preventing or treating osteoporosis, containing a compound having non-peptic angiotensin II receptor antagonism and excellent in bone density-increasing action.
CONSTITUTION: This preventing and treating agent contains a compound of formula I {A is a group of formula II or formula III (X and Y are each O, NR19 or S(O)t; R1 to R4 are each H, a halogen, OH, NO2, CN, a lower (halo) alkyl, a 1-8C alkoxy, etc.; R20 is a lower alkyl; R21 is a halogen; R22 is H, a lower alkyl or a lower acyl; (t) is 0-20]; B is COOR18 (R18 is H, a lower alkyl, etc.) or tetrazolyl} or its salt as an active ingredient. The compound includes 3-methoxy-2,6-dimethyl-4-[2'-(tetrazol-5-yl)-biphenyl-4-yl]methoxypyridine. The agent can be prepared in an oral or parenteral administration form according to an ordinary method and is administered at a daily dose of 0.1-300mg/adult in 1 to several divided portions.
