Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide an acne-treating and preventing agent containing a specific biphenyl compound having a strong antibacterial action against Propionibacterium acnes as an active ingredient, and capable of being added to cosmetics, quasi-drugs and medicines.
CONSTITUTION: An acne-treating and preventing agent containing a biphenyl compound of the formula (R is H, 1-8C linear or branched chain saturated hydrocarbon) as an active ingredient. The biphenyl compound exhibits a strong antibacterial action against Propionibacterium acnes in a low concentration. The biphenyl compound used herein is partially known.
