PURPOSE: To provide an agglomerating agent which, even when added in a small amount, can agglomerate rubber particles in a rubber latex into uniform agglomerated rubber particles having a desired large particle size and a desired particle size distribution by selecting a specified agglomerating agent.
CONSTITUTION: The agglomerating agent latex is obtained first by radically copolymerizing (A) an ethylenically unsaturated monomer (desirably, butyl acrylate) with (B) a vinyl functional group-containing polyoxyethylene [e.g. poly(ethylene glycol) monomethacrylate] in the presence of water to form agglomerating agent particles with bound polyoxyethylene. The agglomerating agent particles are then mixed with a latex of rubber particles (desirably, butadiene homopolymer or copolymer) having a mean particle size of 15-200 nm (in terms of a weight-mean diameter). It is desirable that the average molecular weight of component B is 3,500-7,000. It is desirable than the contents of components A and B are 89-97 wt.% and 0.9-2 wt.% based on the weight of the agglomerating agent particles, respectively.
