PURPOSE: To obtain an air-activatable polymerizable composition suitable for use as one-component system for forming a polymer without requiring a primer by incorporating a free-radically polymerizable monomer and an auto-oxidizable polymerization activator having a specific structure.
CONSTITUTION: This one-component air-activatable polymerizable composition comprises (A) at least one free-radically polymerizable monomer (e.g. hydroxypropyl methacrylate, etc.) and (B) an activator system for effectively polymerizing the free-radically polymerizable monomer, the activator system comprising an auto-oxidizable compound of a formula which includes the structure (wherein X is 0, 1 and the lines representing the unfilled valencies indicate bonds to C, H or hetero atoms alone or in combination with a weak acid, provided that when x=0, the N atom is not bonded to a second N atom and when x=1, the structure is in a compound in which the >C=C< moiety does not form part of a phenyl ring), and the composition does not contain a peroxide or a peroxide precursor.
