PURPOSE: To provide an air bag which can shorten the expansion time and stabilize the direction of the expansion.
CONSTITUTION: An air bag 20 is stored in the upper part 22 of a door 12 in the unwinding state or unfolding state. An inflator 24 is provided on the lower part 26 of the door 12. An inflator 22 is communicated with the air bag 20 through a connecting air bag 28 which provides added padding at the expansion time. A soft flexible material 32 overlies the air bag to hide the air bag from the occupant's view as well as retains the air bag in the unwinding state. The soft flexible material 32 is installed to the inside trim panel 30 of the door 12 by an adhesive or staple and separated away from the inner trim panel 30 so that the air bag 20 reaches in the expansion state at the expansion time of the air bag.
