PURPOSE: To provide an air bag for a vehicle where protection cloth for protecting the sewn thread of a reinforcing cloth sewing part at the circumferential edge of an inflator mounting hole is unnecessary, which can reduce the number of manufacturing process as a whole.

CONSTITUTION: An air bag for vehicle is formed of a bag-like body to be formed of upper basic cloth 12 and lower basic cloth 16 equipped with an inflator mounting hole 14 both of which are superposed and sewn at their circumferential edges. At the circumferential edge of the inflator mounting hole 14 a retainer 22 which is smaller than the outer dia. of the reinforcing cloth 30 and fixes the circumferential edge to a bag holder 20 is built. At least the sewing thread of reinforcing cloth sewing part 34, 36 positioned at the outside of the retainer 22 is made of carbon fiber.
