Abstract:
To realize a processing of high accuracy by compensating gyro effect acting on a spindle main shaft in a case when the spindle main shaft is inclined during high-speed rotation.SOLUTION: In an air bearing spindle including a spindle main shaft and air bearing means rotatably supporting the spindle main shaft via an air layer, and its bearing pressure control method, the air bearing means is disposed on a housing and includes a plurality of radial air bearings and thrust air bearings. The radial air bearings include a plurality of distance sensors for measuring a distance to the spindle main shaft, and an air pad divided into a plurality of sections for keeping an interval of clearances by supplying the air to the clearance of the air layer to the spindle main shaft. The distance sensor increases and decreases a pressure supplied to the air pad by pressure control means according to the distance to the spindle main shaft and changes a pressure of the air pad at a position shifted by 90 degrees in a circumferential direction from the air pad corresponding to the distance sensor.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 10
