To provide an air cell capable of charging and discharging even in acid atmosphere.
The air cell is structured with an air electrode as a positive electrode carrying out electrochemical reduction of oxygen in an atmosphere and generation of oxygen with platinum system catalyst as main catalyst, with lead or a lead alloy as an active material of a negative electrode, and sulfuric acid as an electrolyte. It is preferable to use for the air electrode an air electrode catalyst constituted with the platinum system catalyst made of platinum or its alloy and carbon as main materials, and a lead/antimony alloy is preferable as the lead alloy. Apart from being used by itself, the platinum system catalyst may be used together with oxygen-generating catalyst consisting of metal sulfide and lead oxide or the like.
