To suppress excessive rotation of an engine, prevent spitting of air-fuel mixture from a carburetor to an air cleaner, and improve/stabilize start performance by a choke plate.
In this air cleaner in the small-sized engine, a diameter D1 of an air outlet making communicating the air cleaner 1 to the carburetor 2 is smaller than an intake port diameter D2. In this cleaner, the spitting preventing plate 3a which faces the air outlet 1a at a prescribed interval therebetween when the air outlet 1a is opened, to prevent the air-fuel mixture in the carburetor 2 from spitting in the direction of the air cleaner 1 is formed integrally with a choke plate 3 operating in such a manner that at start, the air outlet 1a of the air clearer 1 is closed to increase a fuel part in the air-fuel mixture produced in the carburetor 2, and after the start, the air outlet 1a is opened. On the choke plate 3, a protrusion 3b is formed to be freely fitted to the air outlet 1a, when the air outlet 1a of the air cleaner 1 is closed.
