An air cleaner body 1 which is mounted with an air blowing means 5 and a filter 6 mounted in an air path 4 for air cleaning includes an active ingredient generating device 50 for generating an active ingredient by electric discharge. The active ingredient generating apparatus 50 has an active ingredient generating section 56 for generating electric discharge and an air path 54 for generating the active ingredient which is mounted with the active ingredient generating section 56. The active ingredient generating section 56 has an electrode section 58 and an insulating spacer 57 mounted closely or nearby on the electrode section 58, and electric discharge is generated in the fine electric discharge space formed along the insulating spacer 57 by applying high voltage to the electrode section 58. The air path 54 for generating the active ingredient is formed to pass the air blown to the active ingredient generating section 56 through both of the electric discharge space and the outer circumferential surface of the electrode section 58.
