PURPOSE: To obtain a suitable output pressure at different operation speeds and enhance reliability by moving a piston with the rotation of a crankshaft means to contact with and depart from a head means, and providing means for directing air and discharging air after compressing.
CONSTITUTION: An air compressor 20 driven by a pulley mounted on a crankshaft of an engine via a belt 58 has a piston 70 engaged in a bore of a cylinder 62. The piston 70 is connected to a connecting rod 80. The connecting rod 80 is coupled with a pair of crankshaft members 84. Each cylindrical extension 90, 92 of the crankshaft members 84 is rotatably supported in each bearing 94. An opening 114 for directing air into the cylinder bore is formed in a sleeve 72 and the cylinder 62. A central hole of a reed valve 132 is arranged in a threaded opening 136 of a reed plate 124. The movement of the reed plate 124 is limited by a reed stop member 138.
