To provide an air conditioner and a method of controlling the air conditioner capable of preventing degradation of heating feeling even when single-type indoor units are used in a multi-type air conditioner.
This air conditioner includes a control section 7 for controlling a refrigerant discharge flow rate in a compressor 21, indoor heat exchange sensors 43 measuring temperatures of indoor heat exchangers 41 in single indoor units 4A, 4B, 4C, 4D, and an operating section 6 for calculating a required discharge flow rate as the refrigerant discharge flow rate of the compressor 21 to ensure a circulation flow rate of the refrigerant supplied to the single indoor units 4A, 4B, 4C, 4D on the basis of an operating condition. The control section 7 performs correction to increase the required discharge flow rate when the required discharge flow rate is a maximum required discharge flow rate or more in the single indoor units 4A, 4B, 4C 4D and a measurement value of the indoor heat exchange sensor 43 is less than a prescribed value, to control the refrigerant discharge flow rate of the compressor 21 on the basis of the required discharge flow rate after the correction.
