To provide an air conditioner for a vehicle capable of improving refrigerating capacity in idling operation under a high outside air temperature by lowering a radiator outlet-side refrigerant temperature by using a new heat medium, not by using natural refrigerant as is found in a conventional device.
This air conditioner has a first refrigerating cycle comprising a first compressor, a first radiator for allowing a refrigerant compressed by the first compressor to release heat, a first pressure reducing means for reducing a pressure of the refrigerant from which heat is released by the first radiator, an evaporator for evaporating the refrigerant of which the pressure is reduced by the first pressure reducing means, and a gas-liquid separator for separating the low-pressure refrigerant discharged from the evaporator, into a gas refrigerant and a liquid refrigerant, an expander is disposed between a first radiator outlet side and a first pressure reducing means inlet side of the first refrigerating cycle, and further a second refrigerating cycle as a cascade cycle, comprising a second compressor applying pressure reduction expansion energy in insulating heat and expanding by the expander, as its power source, is disposed.
