To provide an air conditioner capable of performing heating and cooling with more efficiency without remarkably dropping volumeric efficiency in a using range of heating and cooling and being miniaturized, in an air conditioner within a cabin of an automobile.
A compressor 10 is provided with a plurality of pistons 25, 26 sliding within second and first cylinder bores 13a, 13b by rotation of a rotary shaft 20 driven by an electric motor 17 and compressing a refrigerant. The compressor 10 is provided with an intermediate chamber 38 for connecting the discharge side of the first cylinder bore 13b and the discharge side of the second cylinder bore 13a. The compressor 10 in which the refrigerant is passed through the first and second cylinder bores 13b, 13a and the refrigerant is compressed in two stages is used as a compressor of the air conditioner 50 performing heating and cooling.
