PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly efficient and reliable air conditioner.SOLUTION: An air conditioner A includes: a refrigerant circuit 1 formed by sequentially interconnecting a compressor 11, an outdoor heat exchanger 12, a liquid refrigerant storage device 13, a pump 14, an expansion valve 15, an indoor heat exchanger 16 and an accumulator 17 annularly; bypass piping p1 disposed so that a refrigerant bypasses the pump 14 during a compressor cycle operation; bypass piping p2 disposed so that the refrigerant bypasses the accumulator 17 and the compressor 11 during a pump cycle operation; liquid level sensors 21, 22 for detecting the amount of a liquid refrigerant stored in the liquid refrigerant storage device 13; and control devices 31, 32 for switching to the compressor cycle operation when determining that the liquid refrigerant in the liquid refrigerant storage device 13 runs short on the basis of detection signals input from the liquid level sensors 21, 22 during the pump cycle operation.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
