To provide an air conditioner capable of efficiently cleaning an air filter without waste.
The air conditioner is provided with the air filter 7 eliminating dust in the air passing through a heat exchanger (not shown in the figure); a suction nozzle 8 reciprocated a plurality of times along the air filter 7 to clean by sucking dust stuck to the air filter 7; and a suction device 10 connected to the suction nozzle 8. The reciprocating frequency of the suction nozzle 8 in one cleaning of the air filter 7 is determined according to the elapsed time from the last cleaning. For instance, the reciprocating frequency of the suction nozzle 8 in cleaning the air filter 7 is reduced when the elapsed time from the last cleaning is short, that is, the working time of the air conditioner (not shown in the figure) is short and there is little dust to be collected, and the reciprocating frequency is increased when the elapsed time is long, that is, when the working time of the air conditioner is long and there is much dust to be collected. The air filter 7 can thereby be automatically and efficiently cleaned without waste according to the assumed amount of dust.
