To provide an air conditioner capable of removing a cause of starting failure due to mechanical catching inhibiting rotation of a motor in accordance with the temperature of an outdoor place where a compressor is installed.
The air conditioner includes the compressor having the D.C. motor; a starting means for performing voltage supply processing to supply a preset level of starting voltage to the motor at start; a failure detection means for detecting failure of the start; a temperature detection means for detecting the temperature of the outdoor place where the compressor is installed; a determination means for determining whether or not the detected temperature satisfies predetermined conditions; and a start condition change means for updating the setting to increase the starting voltage and performing processing for changing the rotating position of the motor (start condition change processing). When failure of the start is detected and when it is determined that the detected temperature satisfies the predetermined conditions, the start condition change means performs the start condition change processing prior to the voltage supply processing to be performed next.
