The elevator in which the driving device and the control device are arranged for elevating an elevator car in the shaft 2 and for controlling the driving device, respectively, comprises suction means 13 for sucking air in a hall 3a, where the car is stopped, into the shaft 2 and exhaust means 14 for exhausting air in the shaft 2 via the hall 3a to the outside of a building. The suction means 13 consists of a suction duct 17 communicating the hall 3a with a suction port 16 opening into the shaft 2 and a suction device 18 for generating a suction flow in the suction duct 17. The exhaust means 14 consists of an exhaust duct 21 connecting an exhaust port 20 opening into the shaft 2 to a building exhaust duct and an exhaust device 22 for generating an exhaust flow in the exhaust duct 21.
