CONSTITUTION: The opening control of a motorized expansion valve 6 under a cooling mode operation is such that the opening.V of the expansion valve 6 is linearly increased in response to the increase in the deviation between the intake air temperature Ta and set temperature Tr upon a control circuit (F)'s receiving signal from a room temperature thermostat 7 so as to continuously control the capacity of respective indoor units. At this time, a comparator circuit H computes the deviation ΔTe between the intake air temperature Ta and the evaporating temperature Te in a memory circuit G, and a saturation circuit I determines the maximum opening Vmax of the expansion valve 6 stared in the circuit G in response to the deviation ΔTe, and ΔTe. Then, upon receiving the saturation signal from the circuit 1, the circuit F controls the maximum opening of the expansion valve 6 to the Vmax position to effectively prevent the opening from becoming so excessive to cause a wet operation.
