To provide an air conditioning system and a method for operating the system enabling all of a plurality of evaporators to exhibit sufficient cooling performance even if the evaporators are provided in different height positions, in an air conditioning system naturally circulating a coolant.
The air conditioning system 10 is equipped with a plurality of the evaporators 20X, 20Y provided in different height positions and evaporating coolants, and a condenser 22 arranged in a higher place than the evaporators 20X, 20Y and liquefying the evaporated coolant. In branch pipes 24X, 24Y connected to the evaporators 20X, 20Y, respectively, valves 38X, 38Y adjusting flow rates of the coolants are provided in higher places than the evaporators 20X, 20Y connected to the branch pipes 24X, 24Y. The valves 38X, 38Y are operated by controllers 42X, 42Y on the basis of detected values of differential pressure sensors 40X, 40Y.
