PURPOSE: To provide a one pack stable ambient curing composition which crosslinks after being formed into a film containing an acetoacetate functional polymer and an autoxidizable material.
CONSTITUTION: There is provided a self-crosslinking filter-forming composition containing a vinyl polymer containing 0.5-100 wt. % acetoacetate functional monomer forming pendant acetoacetate functional groups (e.g. allyl acetoacetate) and being soluble in water or a water/auxiliary solvent mixture and 0.5-15 wt.% autoxidizable component (e.g. polyallyl ether) which generates a free radical flux when the filter is exposed to atmospheric oxygen. By converting substantially all of the pendant acetoacetate functional groups by reaction with an excess molar amount of ammonia or a prim. amine (e.g. ethanolamine or methylamine) into pendant enamine functional groups, the composition can be stored stably under conditions in which amine/ammonia do not evaporate.
