Abstract:

PURPOSE: To increase the amount by which electricity is discharged by setting the percentage of pores in a catalyst layer to a predetermined value.

CONSTITUTION: A sheet-shaped catalyst layer 1 is pressed against a collector layer 2, and this two-layered flat plate is curved into a cylindrical shape, around which a gas diffusion layer 3 is wound to obtain a three-layered air electrode 4. The air electrode 4 is such that of pores existing in the catalyst layer 1 having oxygen adsorption and oxygen reduction capabilities, those 0.01 to 0.3μm in diameter occupy 20% or more of the volume of all the pores.
