Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: an air electrode superior in reliability and safety, which enables the prevention of electrolytic solution leak in a metal air battery; and a metal air battery including such an air electrode.SOLUTION: An air electrode used for a positive electrode of a metal air battery comprises: a catalyst layer; a conductive layer; and a water-absorbing layer. The water-absorbing layer has a water-absorbing part including a water absorptive polymer, and is provided on one side of a combination of the catalyst layer and the conductive layer. Preferably, the air electrode further comprises a diffusion layer. The diffusion layer has a hydrophilic part composed of a hydrophilic porous film, and is provided between the combination of the catalyst layer and the conductive layer, and the water-absorbing layer.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
