Abstract:
To provide an air electrode for an air secondary battery, which can lower an overvoltage in charge and discharge reactions, and an air secondary battery including such an air electrode.SOLUTION: An air electrode comprises: an air electrode 2 including a base material 6, and a catalyst layer 8 held by the base material 6. The catalyst layer 8 contains: a bifunctional catalyst capable of producing and reducing oxygen; an electrically-conductive material composed of a carbon material and serving to impart an electrically-conductive property to the catalyst layer 8; and a fluorine resin, serving to impart a water repellent agent to the catalyst layer 8. The ratio F/C of F to C, where C is a percentage of the number of atoms of carbon included in the carbon material, and F is a percentage of the number of atoms of fluorine in the fluorine resin, and atomic %, is measured at a plurality of analysis points randomly selected in a view field of an image of a surface of the catalyst layer 8 taken and enlarged by a scanning type electron microscope. Then, a standard deviation σ is determined on measurements of F/C at the plurality of analysis points; σ falls in a range of 0.03≤σ≤0.05.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
