The corrected target equivalent ratio KCMDCM correlative to the target equivalent ratio KCMD is calculated, and the average detecting equivalent ratio KACTAVE is calculated by averaging the detecting equivalent ratio KACT. A difference between the average detecting equivalent ratio KACTAVE and the corrected target equivalent ratio KCMDCM is calculated as an equivalent ratio difference value DKin, and the target equivalent ratio KCMD is calculated by correcting the basic target air-fuel ratio KCMDbase in response to a detected suction air flow rate GAIR and the equivalent ratio difference value DKin, and air-fuel ratio control is executed so that the detecting equivalent ratio KACT and the target equivalent ratio KCMD coincide.
